Ban the veil for under-15s? "We're still being used to scare people," Muslims complain

Renaissance wants to tackle Islamist entryism, presented as a threat to "national cohesion." Gabriel Attal, who is leading the project, wants to ban the wearing of the veil for children under 15 , create a "crime of coercion" against parents who force their minor daughters to wear the veil, as well as the creation of "a crime of communitarianism."

These announcements came just hours after the release of a shocking report on the Muslim Brotherhood, which is to be presented today to the Defence Council, and which are worrying some Muslims in France : "When you're a teenager, you express yourself through the way you dress and behave," Nordine, 32, a business owner in Bordeaux, said on RMC .

"I think it's a blessing that young girls can express themselves by wearing the veil, and of course, we're not going to deny that some are forced to do so," he adds.

Nordine finds it "disappointing" that the debates on the veil are taking place without the presence of those most concerned, the veiled women : "As Muslims we are tired of being used as scarecrows for the Republic, we are used to scare people," he insists on RMC Story .

The father of a little girl, Nordine assures that if one day she decides to wear the veil, he will explain to her that she risks closing doors at school and in the professional world.

For her part, Zohra, 44 years old and veiled since she was 30, welcomes the fact that people are speaking out about sexuality but deplores the fact that the question of wearing the veil is so closed: "For me, we are going backwards," she laments.

"We are not free when we are forced to wear clothing that has religious significance," argues Mathieu Lefèvre on RMC, a Renaissance MP and supporter of the separatism bill put forward by Gabriel Attal.
